Ultra Surefire - Waste & Recycling

Waste and Recycling

Waste, Recycling and Renewable Energy PDFFire within recycling or waste management facilities continues to be a major problem with an average of once every day, according to figures from the Environment Agency. Fires can sometimes escalate to epic proportions with huge risks to the public, fire fighters and the waste management facility.

Published on the 29 July 2016, Fire Prevention Plans are required and enforced by the Environment Agency. Fire Prevention Plans detail the management system used by the site operator to manage their fire risks effectively and include 3 prime objectives:-

  • Minimise the likelihood of a fire happening
  • Aim for a fire to be extinguished within 4 hours
  • Minimise the spread of fire within the site and to neighbouring sites

For further advice please see the Environment Agency guidance document.

Guidance can also be obtained from the Waste Industry Safety and Health (WISH) Forum, who provide information and standards for site operatives to reduce fire risk, please see Waste Industry Safety and Health Guidance Document.

Recycling, renewable energy and waste management companies are always concerned about the risks of fire and looking for a solution to implement a fixed fire-fighting system capable of mitigating against such future occurrences, consequential loss and disruption to customers.

As this is a scenario not readily catered for by any existing suppression standard or specification, a bespoke fire engineered solution is often required. By integrating electronic fire detection with water mist fire suppression, a solution has been created to suppress a fire which will halt any further fire development and allow sufficient time for fire and rescue service intervention. Our fire engineered solution has been tested and verified by the FPA (Fire Protection Association), along with a comprehensive range of fully tested products to provide our clients with the correct fire protection solution.

Recognised as leading innovators, Ultra Surefire are pioneers within the water mist field and actively work with industry bodies to develop product standards and improve engineering practises.

“Capable of suppression a fire in our diverse application, Ultra Surefire have developed a fire solution that we can integrate into our fire strategy for the future.”
